Item Description
A classic example of the famous Elmwood Calcites in the form of a pair of highly vitreous, VERY GEMMY, sharp, well-formed, soft golden colored, twinned scalenohedra free of matrix. The crystals are in superb condition on the display side, with only a small contact on the front lower edge where it was attached to some Sphalerite. The back has a contact where the piece was removed from the pocket wall, but the specimen is really good quality all around. BETTER IN PERSON, difficult to photograph. Elmwood Calcites are some of the finest examples of the species in terms of quality, gemminess, size and morphology. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9476). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
