Item Description
Please note, this specimen came with a simple hand-written note that said it was only from Zacatecas, with no specific mine mentioned. If anybody out there has some insight as to a more specific locality for this piece, please let us know. With that said, this is fantastic Calcite regardless of the locality. It is a complete "floater" group with an elegant tapered scalenohedral habit, along with beautiful glistening vitreous / resinous luster and superb optic GEM clarity in areas! Additionally, the lower portion of the specimen is clearly twinned, showing a fantastic "v" or "butterfly" shape. On top of that, there are a few accessory crystals on the piece which are all complete, so this is not only a doubly-terminated specimen, it's actually multi-terminated! A superb Calcite with so many things going for it. If you collect Mexican minerals or worldwide Calcites, do not pass this one up. Valued at $1,500 in the inventory. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
