Item Description

A really fine quality and highly aesthetic specimen of Calcite from Galena, Illinois featuring a 4.6 cm, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, VERY gemmy, colorless, scalenohedral crystal with a few smaller accessory crystals of equal quality on reddish-brown Sphalerite matrix. The piece is in superb condition on the display side but the back / base of the piece is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall. Very showy, high quality and impossible to find on the market today. One of, if not the best quality Calcite specimen that we've ever had to offer from Galena. Valued at $750. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#675). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
