Item Description

Calcite is one of the most widespread minerals in the world, beloved by collectors for its incredibly diverse number of styles, habits, forms and colors. Despite the literally thousands of localities in the world for Calcite, some places stand out for their impressive crystallized examples. The famous old pieces from the Sokolovskoe Mine in Kazakhstan, are some of the most beautiful and fine quality examples of Calcite found in the last 30+ years. This small cabinet specimen features good sized, gorgeous, satiny, WATER CLEAR, golden-yellow color twinned rhombohedral crystals of Calcite sitting on a tiny bit of matrix. The piece is undamaged, as far as I can see with the naked eye on the top/display side. The largest individual Calcite measures 5.2 cm. The crystals are completely transparent and are highlighted by beautiful small modifying faces along the edges. You can't find these anymore, they nearly all but disappeared from the market, and it's a shame because they are truly some of the best quality Calcites from any world locality over the last few decades. Valued at $2,800.
