Item Description

A very attractive old-time display specimen of sharp, lustrous, GEM quality very pale golden color twinned Calcite from the classic locality in Montana. Now this piece is cleaved on every side, but a lot of the Calcites from this locality were found in this condition. This mine only produced optic grade Calcite back in the 1940s, and very little material has been seen on the market ever since. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards stating that he acquired the piece from fellow founding member of the CSMS, Orville A. Reese. The piece is numbered at 441 in Wulff's collection, so he acquired it quite early in his collecting days, and it easily dates back 60-70 years.
