Calcite (GEM TWIN) (ex John Arnaud Collection)

A very rarely seen matrix specimen of Calcite from the Meikle Mine, but it's even more remarkable due to the fact that the Calcite is a GEM quality TWIN that looks like a sparkling jewel. This locality is not known for its Calcite, but rather the fine quality golden Barites, so to find a piece like this is impressive. At first glance, I thought this was a Cerussite, due to the shimmering brilliance of the crystal. The modified, striated Calcite twinned crystal measures 2.0 cm across at its widest dimension, and has a wonderfully colorless interior. High luster, fine crystallization and the crystal is perfectly situated at the top of the specimen to create a very aesthetic overall piece. No damage to the Calcite, just a bit of attached matrix on the back of the crystal. From the collection of John Arnaud, and originally from the Lloyd Tate collection.
