Item Description

A classic specimen of the very hard to find Calcite twins from Areponapuchic dating back to the 1950s. These specimens are virtually unseen in today's market, and represent some of the finest quality Calcite crystals in terms of their optic clarity and beautiful morphology. This particular specimen is a stunning, GEM QUALITY, sharp, completely colorless twinned crystal group, free of matrix. The faces are notably lustrous, with beautiful thin striations and the piece glistens when it's rotated in the light. I haven't seen a lot of pieces from this locality, but most of what we've had over the years has a soft matte luster, so the highly reflective faces on this piece is a big deal. I'm not sure that I have seen Calcite twins quite like this one from any other locale but this old classic find, and it almost resembles a Japan-law Quartz twin in a way. The bottom edge of the piece is contacted where it was presumably growing against the pocket wall, but the crystals on top are all in excellent condition. I love the artful arrangement of the crystals, forming a unique and highly displayable miniature sized specimen. Please note that the piece is repaired, but it doesn't take away from the beautiful form and crystallization.
