Item Description
Outstanding combination piece from the Smallcleugh Mine, a historic old Pb-Zn-Fe mine in the Alston Moor District. The aesthetics are divine, with a ring of translucent, highly-modified Calcites up to 1.4 cm ringing a plate of lustrous, 1-2 mm Sphalerites. The Calcites have a rich, deep-orange fluorescence that is just gorgeous without being overwhelming. The reverse side is completely covered by Calcites, but you could not have designed a better presentation side between the quality of the crystals and their arrangement in a wreath. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. A superb and aesthetic specimen from this classic locale!
