Item Description
Calcite is RARE from this extinct underground iron mine, opened in 1914 and closed in 1961. Spherical aggregates of glassy, translucent, oxide-tinted, calcite rhombs are aesthetically festooned on this large and scultpural, 3-dimensional piece. Scattered open spaces show the underlying matrix of spherical aggregates of nubby hematite crystals. The few bruised calcite aggregates noted are certainly only a modest detraction to this rare and large combination example. Modest reddish-orange calcite fluorescence. Ex Robert Nowakowski Collection and valued at $450. A must for the species or locality collector.
