Item Description
Lovely combination piece featuring rounded and unusual balls of orange Calcite resting on a matrix of Colemanite crystals, from the famous U.S. Borax open pit in Boron. This is a very aesthetic specimen, and the Calcites, which range up to 2.3 cm, also have a soft, cream-colored fluorescence. Definitely one of the better of these combination that I have seen, especially for the noteworthy development of the Calcite. In the past, I was told that Jim Minette personally collected this pocket when he was mine manager here back in the 1960s-1970s. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
