Item Description

Calcite on amethyst and quartz specimens of this outstanding and aesthetic quality from the mines at Guanajuato are, indeed, rare. Highly lustrous, translucent, white with gemmy, colorless edges, hexagonal, nailhead calcite rhombs to 4.3 cm stand upright and are attratively scattered on large thin matrix plate composed amethyst points and drusy quartz. The calcites are in great shape, overall. A small edge bruise to the rhomb on the upper right and slight edge wear to the central crystal cluster are noted, which are certainly only modest detractions. This super combination piece is older as it came from the Pappy Yeats Collection formerly in the Texas Tech Geology Department (A well known collection of a prominent geologist, sold off in the 1980s. The piece probably dates to prior to 1950). Pink fluorescence. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection. Valued at $700-900.
