Item Description

A fantastic looking bird-shaped, RARE, calcite combination from this well-known old Cu-Pb-Ag-Au New Mexico mine. Calcite specimens of this richness and unusual quality are very uncommon from here. The piece looks like a bird with a large beak and head. Striking clusters of very glassy, colorless, calcite scalenohedrons are attached to pods of silver ore. The pods consist of RARE pseudocubic acanthite crystals with a scattered tiny chalcopyrite sphenoids and pyrite crystal. MINDAT does not list acanthite for the locale. Neon-orange calcite fluorescence! RARE and choice calcite and acanthite from the Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection. The piece displays beautifully without aid.
