Item Description

A gorgeous three-dimensional display specimen of Calcite from the Verkhnii Mine at Dalnegorsk. Very sharp, well-formed, rather lustrous, attractive compressed scalenohedra are stacked along the underlying matrix to create a showy and eye-catching overall small cabinet piece. The Calcites are certainly gemmy in areas and show wonderful fluorescence under SW UV light. The glistening luster is the best aspect of these attractive crystals, which measure up to 5.3 cm, and for the most part they are undamaged. I can see a few small imperfections, but overall it's in great shape and it's so well balanced and displays wonderfully. Great quality material that will surely go down as some of the best Calcites found in the last 30+ years. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
