Item Description
Rich cluster of fine Calcite crystals from the Bellsgrove Quarry (formerly the Strontian Barytes Mine, and not the same as the nearby and similar Bellsgrove Mine). The gemmy to translucent Calcites range up to about 1 cm in size, and their luster is excellent. The stout, modified habit of these crystals is unusual, but the lovely and colorful reddish-pink fluorescence is exactly what you would expect and hope for. This is a fine, large miniature, with only a minimal amount of wear. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. He had a note referring to this as a Bishop's Hat style, apparently familiar among more UK collectors than I am.
