Irai, within the well-known basalt traps of Brazil, has produced spectacular and aesthetic sprays of Calcite crystals over the years. This cluster is composed of four prismatic Calcites, up to 3.3 cm, that splay nicely on the matrix. The crystals are gemmy, have partially etched terminations, and a smooth but textured surface that makes them look like sculpted ice. And of course the Calcites have a brilliant, neon-orange fluorescence. This is a highly aesthetic and choice cluster that well-represents the famous locality of Irai, and they are becoming harder and harder to find. ex George Elling Collection.
