Item Description
First-rate, LARGE Calcite rhomb from the famous Wessels mine. This terrific crystal is 5.3 cm on edge, and so gemmy you can see the double-refraction of the internal crazings within the rhomb. The edges have complex bevels and fine ridges that are very interesting and attractive, and the back side of the crystal has complex, penetrating twins. Fantastic mineralogically. And to top it off, the Calcite is fluorescent. There is one contact in the back, and a little bit of edgewear here and there, but it is a minor miracle for such a large crystal to be mined even in the good condition it is in. An excellent Calcite, well representative of this great locality.
