Item Description

Wonderful, 360-degree cave calcite "flower" from recent finds at Wenshan, China. The striking, gemmy, glassy, nearly colorless calcite scalenohedrons have satin luster faces and reach 6.3 cm. The impressive display face with the two large upright crystals is pristine. The cleaved tip of a basal calcite crystal is out-of-sight on the back. Bright white fluorescence. Ex Dr. Steve Smale Collection. Steve has assembled one of the world's finest private collections and is also a world renowned mathematician. He collects only exceptional quality specimens. Read more about Steve at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/smalestephen/. These came out a number of years ago and there haven't been any more. A sculptural and excellent example from the locale. To buy this in China today would cost over $1000.
