Item Description

China has produced a plethora of superb quality, beautiful and unique Calcite specimens over the last 25 years or so, and the wonderful pieces from Guilin, are no exception. This cabinet sized piece is a beautiful display specimen filled with fine, sharp, well-formed, narrow scalenohedral crystals of a light yellow hue (some of which have a golden-brown tinge on the "tips) which have formed into a "flower" or "tree" shape. Some people said it also looks like either a cactus or a pineapple. Interestingly, if you flip the piece over, you'll see there is a hollow cylindrical opening at the base of the piece, which I assume runs a portion of the way into the center of the "trunk" of the specimen. The specimen is in great shape overall, with no major damage that I can find, and truly displays well from all sides. A wonderful Calcite specimen to add to any Chinese suite or Calcite collection. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#281 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
