Item Description

A very aesthetic, old-time, CABINET, calcite specimen from the famed Tri-State District and the George Feist Collection. Beautiful, highly lustrous, glassy, amber calcite comprise this very showy piece. Some of the crystals are doubly terminated, including the largest ones, which are up to 9.2 cm. The terminations are particulary gemmy. Overall, for such an old-timer, the piece is in great shape. The lightly cleaved termination on the large crystal and the very scattered trivial bruising are modest detractions. This historic piece is from the much less well-known Vinegar Hill Mine of the Joplin Field and according to a note on the back of the former dealer label, was also in the Florence Mecke Collection, ca. 1930-1970. Excellent quality and very rare from this uncommon mine. Valued at $600.
