Item Description
The famous Calcite specimens from Dalnegorsk are some of the most well-known and fine quality Calcites from any locality. This piece is a gorgeous and showy display specimen featuring a sharp, well-formed, gemmy scalenohedral Calcite crystal measuring 5.2 cm, associated with additional Calcites on matrix. The main Calcite is completely undamaged and it's even twinned, showing a beautiful reentrant angle in the center of the crystal. Under SW UV light, the piece GLOWS with a fiery orange-pink hue, which means that it is manganese-bearing, even with the white/colorless hue. Internally, the Calcites have a beautiful almost "silky" appearance which really accentuates the thin graceful striations that can be seen on several faces. The only damage I can find on the front/display side of the piece is on one of the smaller secondary Calcites, which unfortunately is cleaved, but the fact that the main crystal is in such superb condition, and how elegantly it sits atop the matrix, makes this piece a highly desirable and fine quality example of this wonderful material.
Valued $2,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#138 EN), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the coming months/years through our various platforms.
