Calcite (fine GEM crystals) on Quartz with Fluorite

An impressive and hard to find matrix specimen from Wuzhou featuring many fine quality, sharp, lustrous, white / colorless prismatic crystals with basal terminations sitting on a Quartz covered matrix. If you flip the piece over, you'll see a bit of soft green colored gemmy Fluorite as well, a rarely seen association with this material. The largest Calcite crystal measures 1.8 cm long. Some of the crystals are absolutely water-clear in clarity due to their chemically pure interior, while others have a gentle "misty" quality. The prism faces are quite lustrous, while the terminations have a gentle matte luster for a interesting contrast. No major damage of note, which is significant for this locality, as many of examples from this locality are simply loose single crystals off matrix, but I can see a little roughness in a few spots. These now very hard-to-find Calcites from Wuzhou are now considered classics dating back to the early 2000s, but it's the fact that they are some of the finest gem optic grade Calcite crystals from anywhere in the world that really sets them apart.
