Item Description
A fantastic old-time twinned Calcite from Joplin. This particular style is hard to find on market based on my experience in the last decade or so. The piece features a pair of sharp, well-formed prismatic scalenohedra forming a "fishtail"-esque twin with a "heart"-shaped reentrant angle at the top. The terminations feature modified pyramidal faces, which play nicely against the long smooth prism faces. The color is a pleasing golden hue, and the piece has wonderful internal translucency / gemminess when backlit. There are a few minor imperfections, but the piece is in great shape all around, save the base where it was cleaved away from the pocket. A fantastic classic example of this desirable and rarely seen twins from Joplin. This specimen is from the collection of J. G. Dixon, with a wonderful accompanying hand-written label. It's hard to know specifically when this piece was found, but based upon the age of the label, I can safely say it goes back 50+ years.
