Exceptional and rare style calcite from this well-known York County quarry. Most larger calcites from here are blocky complex rhombs or scalenohedrons. This impressive piece is a rare stacked cluster of lustrous and translucent, golden-amber flattened nailhead rhombs. The much lighter jagged edges and artistic inclusions in the center add real pizzazz to this excellent piece. Nearly pristine, with only two spots of trivial scuffing and two contacts on the lower edge, where other crystals once lay with only trivial bruising. This is an outstanding and RARE style calcite from here. Formerly in the Dr. Gary Hansen Collection and collected in 1979. Ex Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection.
