Item Description

I can honestly say that I've never seen a piece of this material before. A rarity for the area, even if it's a common species. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards stating that it was personally collected by Wulff himself. This specimen features two generations of Calcite with sharp, gemmy, colorless compressed rhombs sitting on golden rhombic Calcites in a crystalized vug. The largest crystal measures 1.2 cm. The label says that the piece was collected along Little Fountain Creek, which is just north of the site of Ft. Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs, though I'm sure when it was collected, it was just wilderness.
