Item Description

An older specimen of Calcite from Guanajuato featuring sharp, gemmy, colorless scalenohedral crystals measuring up to 1.8 cm sitting on matrix. The piece is in great shape overall, as nearly every crystal on the display side is pristine. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The specimen is from the collection of fellow CSMS founding member and mineral legend, Lazard Cahn ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?page=1&colid=324 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that lists the piece as entry #22 in his collection, and considering that Lazard Cahn died in 1941, this piece is at least 75 years old. A wonderfully historic large cabinet display specimen with wonderful pedigree.
