Item Description
Calcite is found from thousands of world localities, but you can still find something that doesn't quite look like any other Calcite you've seen, which I feel is the case with this specimen. This small cabinet sized piece features a combination of compressed trigonal crystals along with some tabular "blades", plus stacked composite groups forming almost "pagoda"-like shapes. The color ranges from a chalky white to a translucent colorless hue. The luster ranges from a reflective vitreous quality to almost a soft matte quality. The largest composite group measures 2.8 cm tall. Very little damage (a bit of roughness around the lower periphery) and rather three-dimensional and displayable. Hard to photograph, but very attractive in person. The piece comes with a label from the collection of Thomas Wolfe, and the given locality is the "Mina La Mojena".
