Calcite (ex Rich Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

A classic and very aesthetic display specimen of the renowned Calcites from the famous Sweetwater Mine. A 4.8 cm, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, light golden yellow color, doubly-terminated prismatic scalenohedral crystal of Calcite sits beautifully on sharp, lustrous, metallic, golden Chalcopyrite crystals and small grey colored rhombs of Dolomite on host rock matrix. The main Calcite crystal is in very good condition. A smaller secondary Calcite can be seen on the underside of the piece for a nice touch. I love how the main Calcite is positioned so beautifully in the center of the piece, and is aesthetically flaring off the matrix. From the collection of Richard Kosnar (1946-2007), well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, and the namesake for the phosphate species, Kosnarite.
