Calcite (ex Richard A. Kosnar collection)

Item Description

A rarely seen piece of Calcite from the Hanover Quarry, in York County, Pennsylvania. The piece features several GEM quality, nearly colorless (pale golden color) modified rhombohedra (pseudo pyritohedral) crystals of Calcite (one is distinctly twinned) sitting on matrix. The largest crystal measures 1.0 cm across. The crystals have incredibly smooth and well-formed faces, better quality than the few I have seen from this locality, despite the fact that they are smaller. There is a bit of roughness / damage on the upper portion of the piece, but it could be trimmed off I think. From the collection of Richard A. Kosnar.
