Item Description
This small cabinet / large miniature sized specimen features dozens of little sharp, well-formed, triangular-shaped prismatic crystals of white Calcite measuring up to about 4 mm covering the display side of a thin layer of host rock matrix from Charcas. The piece is actually crystallized on the back as well, but the Calcites are quite small, mostly under 1 mm. The piece is fun to view under a loupe or microscope, and this particular habit of Calcite from Charcas is not terribly common in my experience. An interesting reference specimen for any fan of Calcite or Mexican minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
