Calcite (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

Calcite and Hyalite Opal specimens are extremely rare from this obscure skarn deposit mine, noted for fine mimetite specimens. This is a sculptural Calcite cave specimen that looks like coral. The stalactitic stalks of the tan oxide-tinted calcite have both striking bulbous tips and spike-like terminations. A real surprise is the neon-green coating of Hyalite Opal that shows up under SW UV light. Outstanding older material from the 1960s or 1970s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#199). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
