Item Description

The famous Calcites from St Andreasberg are some of the most well-known examples of the species from any German locality. This semi-stalactitic group has an almost "caterpillar"-esque appearance featuring two stacks of sharp, lustrous, slightly smoky colored compressed scalenohedral crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm across and free of matrix. The piece is in amazingly good shape all around with no major damage, and only a few tiny imperfections that you really can't see without looking very closely. If you're a Calcite fan or if you love old European classics, this is a good one and certainly worth picking up for your collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1134). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A lovely German classic from the famous locality.
