Item Description

A beautiful old-time classic Calcite specimen from Romania featuring sharp, well-formed, lustrous, translucent, pale yellow and silvery-grey bi-colored scalenohedral crystals free of matrix. The largest Calcite measures 1.3 cm long. Nearly every crystal on the display side is undamaged, and the gentle silvery-grey (Arsenopyrite or Galena possibly?) inclusions gives them good discernible distinction. The piece came labeled as coming from Offenbanya in Transylvania, Romania, but Calcite isn't reported from this locality, so it's probably from a nearby mine. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. Additionally the piece is accompanied by a label from Kenny Gay and an old hand-written label from an unknown collection.
