Item Description

The Elmwood complex of mines are world-renowned for their world class specimens of calcite, fluorite, and sphalerite, with the Cumberland mine producing some of the best calcites in terms of color. A lot of people do not realize that there is a mix of the two mines' material on the market, and it was actually Cumberland that produced these chunky, color-saturated, gem crystals with this shape, whiel Elmwood calcites tend to be more "pointy" and scalenohedral, as well as gemmy. Yet, this specimen is very translucent, very sparkly, and has the color saturation of Cumberland Mine but the luste rof many Elmwood Mine calcites...a great combination of qualities! This piece, on a shelf, really shows off its deep amber coloration and wonderful luster. The largest crystal measures 7.2 cm. This specimen has a custom-made base that accompanies the piece. Valued $1250
