Item Description

A classic example of the famous Malmberget Calcites, known for their beautiful form and color. This piece is an elegant matrix specimen featuring many fine quality, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, golden colored tapered scalenohedral crystals measuring up to 3.0 cm on matrix. The largest crystal is actually doubly-terminated, and features an interesting slightly "bent" habit. The tips of the crystals are a richer golden-brown hue as opposed to the bases where they are a light yellow-golden color. VERY little damage and quite showy for what it is. You don't see many like this on the market, so if you're a fan of worldwide Calcites or minerals from Europe/Sweden, don't pass this one up. This specimen comes from the collection of our own Alex Venzke (#61.19), member of the leadership team of the Young Mineral Collectors group, a member of the mindat.org management team, a board member for the national Friends of Mineralogy organization, a board member for the Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia, and co-founder and current Vice President of the Friends of Mineralogy Virginia Chapter.
