Item Description
A Superb, doubly-terminated Calcite from what may be the premier Calcite locality in the world, Elmwood. The large, 11 cm! crystal has multiple terminations at each end, and they are gemmy and cognac-colored, which is exactly what the most coveted Elmwood Calcites should be. The piece is nearly pristine, as much as can be expected in this size with just the tiniest of a tip ding on one small point - hard to spot. The Calcite sits upright on a pedestal of Calcite, and with the contacted bottom being flat, so that the specimen is freestanding. The piece reminds me of the great Elmwoods that were some of the early centerpieces of the famous Sams Collection, which was the seed for the Houston Museum's world-class collection. Top-notch, and aesthetic, of excellent gemminess and size, this is one of the finer hoarded specimens in Charlie Key's setback of Elmwood material he obtained in the late 1970s and 1980s. It is valued at $2500-3000.
