Item Description

When it comes to Calcite, the world-famous Elmwood Mine had produced some of the most iconic examples of the species ever found. Their impressive size, habit and quality makes them not only world-class, but highly desirable for collectors. This large cabinet display specimen hosts a fine, large, sharp, lustrous, gemmy / translucent golden colored, doubly-terminated twinned scalenohedron of Calcite with a lovely smaller Calcite crystal flaring out of the side associated with an oddly compressed group of light beige colored Barite forming a "flower"-shaped group with very minor matrix. The Barite somewhat reminds of a Pyrite "sun" in terms of shape and style, and I can't remember seeing anything quite like it from Elmwood. Now the piece is not 100% damage free, as there are a few small nicks, and the back edge of the Calcite has a point of attachment where it was removed from either the pocket wall or another Calcite crystal, but both it's still in good shape all around and displays wonderfully from several angles. Although the mine is still operating, very little material is saved these days, as the production demands that there is no time to stop to collect specimens, so get your hands of them while you can, because there will more than likely be less an less of them on the market as the years go by. Valued in the inventory at $1,350.
