Calcite (doubly-terminated twin) on Dolomite

This beloved and historic U.S. locality has produced some of the world's finest Calcite and Fluorite specimens extant. Although there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood Mine, they remain as some the most recognizable crystallized specimens of their respective species extant. This attractive piece features a very sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, doubly-terminated, soft golden colored twinned scalenohedral crystal of Calcite measuring 3.6 cm across aesthetically perched atop soft grey colored Dolomite matrix. The twin is very well-defined, as you can see the reentrant angle at the center of the crystal. A smaller secondary doubly-terminated Calcite crystal can be seen on the specimen as well for a nice accent. The piece is in very good shape overall, though the main Calcite has minor roughness on the front side and is cleaved on the back. These Calcites are some of the most well-known examples of a species that is found in thousands of world localities.
