Item Description

This beloved and historic U.S. locality has produced some of the world's finest Calcite and Fluorite specimens extant. Although there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood Mine, they remain as some the most recognizable crystallized specimens of their respective species in the world. This attractive piece features a very sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, doubly-terminated, soft golden colored twinned scalenohedral crystal of Calcite measuring 3.4 cm across aesthetically perched atop matrix with minor white Dolomite A bit of reddish-brown Sphalerite can be seen attached to the front of the Calcite for a nice touch. The twin is very well-defined, as you can see the reentrant angle at the center of the crystal. The piece is in very good shape overall, though the main Calcite has minor roughness on one end. These Calcites are some of the most well-known examples of a species that is found in thousands of world localities.
