Item Description
A choice, single, doubly-terminated crystal of Calcite from the Alto da Serra Quarries in Portugal. Specimens from this area are notably rare to find on the market, and this piece really stands out for its morphology and size. The piece is nearly a complete "floater", but there is a small separation mark on one side, so it's not 100% complete all around. With that said, it's still an impressive crystal, the only one like it that I can remember seeing from the locality. Both ends featuring excellent pyramidal terminations, with smooth, well-formed prism faces. The color is a pale golden hue, and the crystal shows moderate internal translucency when backlit. If you're a Calcite collector, I'll bet you don't have a piece like this in your collection, so don't miss out, it's the only one we have to offer from the locality.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-197462.html
