Item Description
The famous Shangbao Mine has been the source of some beautiful display quality mineral specimens for many years, and has become one of the most well-known Fluorite producers in the entire country. This piece features excellent Calcite crystals however, but they are still associated with Fluorite. The Calcites from this mine are easily recognizable for the attractive habit and color. This small cabinet hosts several sharp, well-formed, trigonal, golden colored crystals of Calcite - many of which are doubly-terminated - measuring up to 5.1 cm long associated with partially etched crystals of soft purple colored Fluorite measuring up to 1.8 cm free of matrix. The main Calcite crystal on the piece has some slight skeletal growth, and a small area where I believe another Calcite once grew, but is now recrystallized ("re-healed"), so it's not damaged. The quality and overall form of the piece make is a worthwhile and eye-catching specimen to add to a Calcite suite, a Chinese mineral collection or a collection of mineral associations.
