Item Description

A classic crystal of the famous golden-yellow Calcites from the famed Sweetwater Mine in Missouri. The piece is a sharp, well-formed, prismatic scalenohedron that is doubly-terminated and complete all around with no damage I can find. A few attached spots of Dolomite and micro Chalcopyrite make for a great association. These speicmens are not nearly as common on the market as they once were, and are easily some of the most well known U.S. Calcite specimens extant. A beautiful piece of these wonderful Tri-state Calcites.
From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
