Item Description

The remote Nanisivik Iron Mine is above the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island and is one of the most remote and inhospitable mining locations on earth. The mine closed in 2002. This sculptural and aesthetic combination specimen is highlighted by the 2.4 cm, doubly terminated, lustrous, transparent to translucent, amber calcite crystal and by the mirror-bright, brass-yellow, pyrite pyritohedrons, that have pseudomorphed the numerous, sharp, tabular, marcasite crystals. The striking, large pseudo is 2.4 cm across. The preferential scattering of sharp, grayish-white, dolomite rhombs gives this fine specimen additional character. Choice combination material from the Harold Urish Collection # 295. The quality and aesthetics of this combination specimen are way above average for the locale, especially with the well-placed calcite crystal.
