Calcite, Cuprite and Malachite, with Dolomite

Calcites from Tsumeb have produced fine specimens in which the Calcite stands alone, but also wonderful, widely-recognized combinations as we see here. Lustrous and gemmy, the rhombs of colorless Calcite reach up to 8 mm on edge. These characteristics allow the included, green Malachite to display beautifully as both sharp zones and puffy green clouds floating within the crystals. The specimen even has one very nice crystal of isolated Malachite that shows classic radial growth. Crystals of dark-grey, metallic Cuprite dot the mineral landscape, and drusy, microcrystalline Dolomite accents the matrix and crystals. The Calcite has an intense, burning-orange fluorescence. Quality combinations with included Calcites like this are signature Tsumeb, and this aesthetic, small-cabinet piece is even better in person. What a combination of subtle colors!
