Calcite crystals on Dolomite over Calcite

A cool multi-generational specimen from the San Juan de Rayas Mine in Guanajuato, Mexico featuring a textbook scalenohedral crystal of Calcite that has been coated by a thin layer of tan Dolomite. If you look closely (especially on the termination), you can see another deposition of tiny soft yellow colored Calcite crystals overgrowing the Dolomite layer. The label accompanying the piece states there is Quartz on the specimen, but I don't see it. You need to see the little Calcite crystals on the termination with magnification, but they're clearly not Quartz. I honestly haven't seen a piece quite like this from this locality before, and if you collect Mexican minerals or carbonates, don't miss out on this beautiful and interesting piece for your collection. No damage, save the base where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Priced at $600 in our inventory.
