Item Description
A RARE and attractive specimen from Elk Creek featuring a fossil Scaphites (a genus of heteromorph Ammonites belonging to the Scaphitidae family) with beautiful iridescent flashes seen in Ammolite fossils. A small opening in the fossil featuring a crystallized vug of golden yellow Calcite crystals! I've never seen a piece of this material before, and it's certainly worth picking up if you collect fossil material, specimens from the United States, or just strange / unusual pieces. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#597). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
