Calcite (Cobalt-bearing) with Safflorite

Item Description

A rarely locality specimen from the Tamdrost Mine (according to the accompanying dealer label) featuring attractive, gemmy, pinkish-purple colored modified trigonal crystals of Cobalt-bearing Calcite measuring up to 4 mm, which are associated with metallic, silvery-grey micro crystals of Safflorite, a rare cobalt iron nickel arsenide species. This is the only specimen we've seen with both species together from the Tamdrost Mine. There are some areas of damage, so the piece is not pristine, but it's very attractive up close and the association of these two minerals together is very hard to find in nature.
