Item Description

This is a beautiful small cabinet display specimen from the Agoudal Mines, filled with eye-catching saturated pink color, translucent crystals of the very desirable cobalt-bearing variety of Calcite, free of matrix. The scalenohedral tapered crystals measure up to about 8 mm, and they glisten with vitreous luster. The color is notably different from most other cobalt-bearing Calcites, as there is a bit of a rosey overtone. One of the most classic localities for the material, which has produced arguably some of the best specimens of this variety of Calcite in the world. No major damage I can see to the majority of the crystals, only a bit of roughness around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Valued $1,250
