Calcite (Cobalt-bearing)

Item Description

Here we have a lovely small cabinet display specimen from the Mashamba West Mine in DRC filled with eye-catching saturated pink color, translucent crystals of the very desirable cobalt-bearing variety of Calcite on matrix. The crystals measure up to a few mm, so they are best seen up close, and we've provided macro photos to better illustrate the quality. They glisten with a fine vitreous luster. One of the most classic localities for the material, which has produced arguably some of the best specimens of this variety of Calcite in the world. No major damage I can see to the majority of the crystals, only a bit of roughness around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall.
