Item Description

A fantastic showy display specimen from Dalnegorsk featuring a good sized thick trigonal crystal of colorless Calcite measuring 6.1 cm across, which has a very light coating of sparkling, colorless Apophyllite crystals, which flow down to the underlying matrix to create a wonderful full cabinet sized piece. The Calcite shows a pink-orange fluorescence under SW UV light, which means it's manganese-bearing, though it really doesn't show any pink color in standard indoor lighting. This combo/association is not common from Dalnegorsk, and to have such a highly displayable and eye-catching piece of the material is certainly desirable and rare.
Valued $2,400.
From the collection of Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar (1946-2007), the well-known mineral dealer and mineral collector from Colorado, who was the namesake for the rare phosphate species Kosnarite. Rich was also the man responsible for bringing "The Great Phosphophyllite" into the US in 1977 (see https://www.mindat.org/photo-240201.html).
