Rare style and color, on this rhombohedral cobaltoan calcite plate from the famous Mashamba West Mine. Although this is the same mine famed for world-class vivid pink scalenohedrons, some other styles came out. Nobody will say this is as bright and colorful, as the famous pink scalenohedra, but it is interesting, large, and fascinating for its geometrical patterning. Sharp, lustrous, vivid pink to brown, translucent to opaque rhombs, to 6 mm on edge, are festooned on the sculptural large matrix.. The dramatically contrasting snow-white spherical aggregates are clusters of tiny curved dolomite rhombs. Ex Tim Sherburn Collection.
